There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction,
a blessed unrest keeps us marching and makes us more alive than others.

grocery list entry about my weekend

so right at the start of this entry, i don't feel like i have much to say. but i feel compelled to write, so prepare yourself for the grocery list.

saturday, i got up and worked out immediately. then spent most of the day working on BigSis' site and playing computer games. in the evening, CD, eRoommate and i snarfed some pizza, then hooked up with Rudy and HeroMan to head to Herman's. the opening band, Mission 19, was really, really good. very fun, up-tempo poppy kind of rock. solid music. i'll catch them again if i can.

the headliners, Opie Gone Bad, are pretty much the biggest local band in Denver. i can't for the life of me imagine why. i think they suck. bad. they pretty much have one beat, and one groove. and they cram every song into it, including some that really don't fit. the lead singer (though he as a good voice) seems to hit a point in every song where he forgets all the words except for one line, so he just repeats that line about twenty times. they did some covers, and usually it was hard for me to tell that it was a cover. they were about five minutes into "Sympathy for the Devil" before i said to myself "hey, wasn't there a stones song with those little whoo-hoos in it?". by the by, i don't much like the stones, and i *hate* Sympathy for the Devil. so hearing a bad rendition of it by a band i was growing to hate, not a good time.

Rudy and i were pretty much ready to leave by midnight (Opie came on at quarter till), but eRoommate, CD and HeroMan were out on the dance floor having a good time, so we stuck it out for their sakes. all i can say is thank goodness Rudy had the forethought to bring enough ear plugs to share.

yesterday was for the most part another slouching around the house day. more work on BigSis' site. no working out. in the afternoon i went down to OriginalWhiteGuy's place for some music. the song idea i'd been kicking around came out and pretty much the music appeared fully formed from my guitar. the words need some serious work. OriginalWhiteGuy helped get some down on paper, but as a whole they're cheesier than i like. as i said, serious work needed. i hope i can get it polished enough in time for my recording session.

that isn't as cool as it sounds. i'm not going into a professional recording studio. i'm going to jo3's apartment. it'll be mostly me and jo3, with CH lending some trumpet. i want to keep down on overdubs and such, and go for a sam shaber "perfecT" kind of sound. i've got a month before we're gonna do it, so i have some time to rehearse. i'll need every minute.

so i could talk some more about the continuing lack of good music dynamic between me and OWG, or i could discuss the fashion disaster that was Opie Gone Bad (yellow leather pants and mesh shirts. i suspect they don't own mirrors), or i could wax rhapsodic about EchoGirl again (but that would only remind me that i *still* haven't asked her out yet).

but i'm not going to do any of that.

instead i'm going to apologize for the grocery list entry.

and go to lunch.
